The Origin of Saffron – Affluence and Power

Saffron consists of the fine stems of the crocus plant “Crocus Sativus”. For centuries the “Red Gold” has been associated with bright colors and exclusivity. Because of its fine aroma and varied applications, saffron is still an indespensable part of many highend kitchens to this day.

Even in antique times saffron was the subject of countless documents, in writings about natural medicine and the first encyclopedias it found its place. Whether as a component of fine perfums, or for adding color to select textiles and choice meals, saffron was the symbol of affluence and power in the courts of kings and emperors and to this day it is prized as a rare and exceptional spice in the finest kitchens of the world.
