In Europe, Cuban Arabica coffee beans have been considered a premium coffee since the 50s – the Cuban coffee industry is booming. An essential factor to the beginning of this success story is the migration of French coffee farmers from Haiti to Cuba. As a result of their arrival, the number of coffee farms in Cuba and the area of cultivation increased significantly. Since 2003, Cuba has been exporting organic coffee – with more than 4000 hectares certified as organic.
What does Fairtrade mean?
We only use 100% Arabica coffee from Cuba that is both organically produced as well as certified by Fairtrade. In order for a good to bear the Fairtrade seal, minimum prices need to have been put in place in cooperation with producer organisations. These minimum prices ensure that the costs of the coffee production under humane working conditions as well as the costs of daily life of the workers are covered.
Conscious sustainability – organically produced MIASA Espresso
Organic production means, that agricultural products are produced using sustainable production methods. Products of organic agriculture are free of genetic modification, the use of certain pesticides, mineral fertilizers, flavour enhancers, artificial aromas, colouring agents and preservatives.
